QuestionI've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it. Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the 'Brightness minus' key. Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the 'Brightness' selection under 'Settings'. Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level.I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver. I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button. I have even rebooted several times. Is there a way I can get this rectified? There is a solution WITHOUT modifying Regedit. The same problem with an IdeaPad Z400 was posted and answered by a support specialist here:followed those instructions on my IdeaPad P500 after my display went dim after I touched the f11 key once (without holding the Fn key down).
If your computer screen is faint, or the screen brightness is too low even at 100% and/or the laptop screen is too dark at full brightness before Windows opens, it could indicate a hardware failure. Shut down your computer and press the power button again to start it. Immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu displays. If your screen is too dark, there may be multiple causes and the solution will depend on the root cause. Settings You may be able to adjust the settings of your laptop screen through the operating system's configuration.
I had updated from windows 8 to 8.1 a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if that was the issue. Katihoward.I just had the same issue.
3rd time in two years. Lenovo P500 upgraded to windows 10. My P500 has the Intel video 4000 chipset. I believe some P500's and models in this same model group have Nvidia chipsets.Display was stuck at about 50% brightness. Unable to change the brightness higher or lower through F11 or F12. Unable to change brightness through Video properties for the Intel HD4000 control panel.I resolved the issue by going to device manager and under display adapters removing the display adapter under properties.
Windows 10 will reinstall a display driver on it's own after it detects the chipset at the next reboot. You may be promted to search the internet.
Going to the latest driver usually fixes bugs.I also removed the Lenovo power management software that I installed based on the Lenovo website for support for the P500.Windows 10 does a very good job at managing power without the need for the lenovo app and you can change the defaults for how your laptop manages things like sleep and power off in battery or plugged in modes. Hope this helps.
I thought my computer monitor was dying so I bought a new one, because the picture was getting darker and darker, and I could barely watch DVDs anymore. With my new monitor everything is bright - but so bright it hurts my eyes. When I darken the setting on the monitor, the desktop and internet look fine but videos and dvd movies are now really dark. (it's like on default settings videos show normal but the desktop etc are too bright, and when I lower the brightness on the monitor or the nvidia settings the desktop looks ok but now videos come out really dark.) I installed the latest nvidia drivers, and used the tool to calibrate the picture with nvidia's 'run display optimization wizard' but when I calibrate the gamma to what it tells me to. It comes out much much darker.Any idea how to fix this problem?
